Moore Indian Education, Title V-C. Tutor's Handbook.

This guide explains the duties of an Indian tutor in the Indian Education Program in Moore (Oklahoma) Public Schools and provides hints for successful tutoring. The reading section describes reading skills; explains the components of sight vocabulary skills, word analysis skills, and comprehension skills; provides checklists on general reading skills, word attack skills, oral reading skills, and other relevant data; and includes the Dolch word list, the Fry word list, and lists of prefixes and suffixes. The language arts section explains some assumptions about writing; describes some activities for developing listening and speaking skills, expanding vocabulary, and teaching creative writing; and discusses using the newspaper to tutor in reading. Ideas are presented for mixing writing with other content areas, such as art, social studies, math, and science. The section on touch math provides basic information, and specific instructions for addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
