The Most Common Errors of Second Grade Story-Writers.

A study sought to find the most common errors of second grade story-writers. Subjects, 96 second graders from 5 classes, wrote 3 stories each without any help from their teachers on topics chosen by the teachers ("The Funniest Thing that Ever Happened to Me,""Winter," and "My Special Holiday"). Stories were collected and read and every amount and kind of error was documented. Lists were made and kinds of errors tallied in order to determine where the most problems lay. Results showed spelling as the most common error followed by capitalization, punctuation, grammar, and context. (One table of data is included and 19 references are attached.) (Author/SR)
