Outcomes Assessment Handbook: How To Develop a Practical Outcomes Assessment Program for a Home Study School.
Godfrey, Robert J.
This handbook is designed to provide school decision makers with a global view of how assessment programs for home study schools are developed. Outcomes assessment (OA) is a required element for recognition by the National Home Study Council Accrediting Committee and hence for member schools. This handbook is designed to enable program developers to: explain the concepts of OA; assess the present sources and uses of student information; develop an outline for an initial OA program; understand the basics of formulating and administering surveys; control the release of data gathered; and understand the linkage between the OA program and continued accreditation. The following topics necessary for outcomes assessment are addressed: (1) pre-study for OA; (2) survey population definition; (3) drafting survey questions; (4) the survey package; (5) handling responses; and (6) OA program uses. The OA program should be designed to stimulate corrective responses to problems while serving as a catalyst for change. An appendix contains an assessment response grid, a sample confidence level calculation, and a list of resources. (SLD)
