The information in this book was taken from 1988 annual reports submitted to the Texas State Library by public libraries in that state. The statistics reflect each library's 1988 local fiscal year (i.e., ending January 1, 1988). The publication opens with general information about the Texas State Library, and a map of the major resource systems, followed by a directory of Texas public libraries. The statistics for each library, which are arranged alphabetically by city name and grouped into tables, are then presented. They identify: (1) the library status, outlets, and users; (2) expenditures; (3) income; (4) collections; (5) local services; (6) technology and resource sharing; and (7) staffing and salaries. Summary statistics are compiled by region and by county. A list of board chairpersons of public libraries, presidents of friends of library groups, and a sample 1988 annual report form are appended.
