The paper presents the standards of the University of Colorado concerning academic honesty and integrity and explains how the university handles breaches of these standards. Breaches of academic honesty include cheating, plagiarism, and unauthorized possession or disposition of academic materials not formally released by the instruction. Each of these infractions is defined in detail, and the sanctions that could be imposed on the student are indicated. Additionally, a description of the procedures adopted by the university's College of Arts and Sciences for handling cases of academic dishonesty is provided, beginning with measures to safeguard the accused student's rights and going on to outline the hearing requirements, how the charges are presented, the requirements and options of the Committee on Academic Ethics in hearing the case, student defense options, and the reporting of decisions made by the committee. Included is a list of those responsible for coordinating and distributing copies of the procedures in each school. (GLR)
