The Virginia Agenda for Prevention of Developmental Disabilities in the 1990's. Recommendations.
Action for Prevention, Inc., Richmond, VA.; Virginia Commonwealth Univ., Richmond. Virginia Inst. for Developmental Disabilities.
Action for Prevention, Inc., in collaboration with the Virginia Institute for Developmental Disabilities, instituted a project to refine and update the 1983 Virginia Act Agenda for the prevention of developmental disabilities. This document presents recommendations from the project's four Task Forces charged with the responsibility of evaluating progress in developmental disability prevention in Virginia since 1983 and establishing new priorities for prevention of developmental disabilities for the 1990's. Recommendations are organized in sections on genetics, perinatal influences, early childhood, and school age/adolescence. A subsequent section categorizes the recommendations into the areas of service, education, and research. This section is coded to indicate which recommendations have been standing since 1983, which recommendations suggest legislation, and which recommendations are being addressed currently in the public sector and where that action is taking place. A list of the members of each task force is included. (JDD)
