Equity in California. Interventions. Career-Vocational Education Single Parent/Homemaker Programs in California.
Hadley, Carolyn
This report records the accomplishments of single parent/homemaker vocational education programs in California, mandated by the Carl D. Perkins Vocational Education Act of 1984. These programs assist single parents/homemakers in their progress from poverty and public assistance toward personal empowerment and economic self-sufficiency. The report also presents the success stories of the persons served. The document is organized in three sections. Section I presents comments reflecting the experiences of two categories of persons deeply involved in the California Career-Vocational Education Single Parent/Homemaker Projects: (1) those who have received services and (2) those who plan and carry out the daily activities of the programs and projects at the local level. Section II describes statewide projects that facilitate the activities of local projects; they include gender equity consultant, Project TIDE (Toward Individual Development through Equity), Project TEAM (Together Everyone Can Ascend Mountains), CIRCLE Project (Circulating Information, Resources, and Curriculum for Living Equally), Pasadena LADIES (Life after Divorce Is Eventually Sane), and the Evaluation and Training Institute. Section III contains excerpts from the formal evaluation of 1986-88 activities provided by the Evaluation and Training Institute. A directory of single parent/homemaker grantees is provided. (KC)
