Improving Student Learning in Content Areas through an Interdepartmental Study Skills Program Promoting Structural Notemaking Strategies.
Turner, Gordon
This practicum report describes a study skills program designed to teach organizational skills and notetaking techniques to students in grades eight and nine. The program included in-service teacher workshops designed to promote learning style awareness strategies, foster an interdisciplinary curriculum perspective, and encourage the teaching of conceptual organizational structures. Parents were made aware of the goals of the program. An evaluation of the program indicated that the teaching of learning strategies did help students build study skills. Teachers showed an improved awareness of the importance of study skills, and parents noted that the study skills were practical and important tools for improving their children's learning. (PCB)
