This handbook was prepared for the guidance of participants in a workshop designed to help teach Greek Orthodox lay persons the basic elements for creating religious retreats. Part 1 of this document teach Greek Orthodox lay persons the basic elements for creating religious retreats. Part 1 of this document defines the meanings of the terms workshop and retreat and describes this workshop's goals on how to develop successful religious retreats. Part 2 discusses a profile of the Orthodox Christian teacher and the educational possibilities of retreats. Part 3 presents ideas for building a retreat based on tasks that include: (1) the retreat's theme; (2) retreat learning activities; (3) discussion group leadership and activities; and (4) retreat evaluation. Appendices include: (1)"Choir Retreats: Suggested Guidelines" (A. Counelis; J. Counelis); (2) "Empirical Findings from an Orthodox Christian Adult Retreat" (J.
