Historical Trends: State Education Facts, 1975-1985.
Hoffman, Charlene; Brown, Patricia
This is the first edition of a report that brings together comparable data for a number of key education areas, by state, for a consecutive 5-year period, and a comparison for a 10-year period. This report provides data for 1975 and for 1981 through 1985, as well as a state-by-state comparison of 1975 with 1985. The first section, which covers elementary and secondary education, includes 11 tables and charts of state-by-state figures and percentages for enrollment, teachers, pupil-teacher ratios, average teacher salaries, employment of staff, pupil-staff ratios, public high school graduates, current expenditures, and expenditures per pupil. The second section, covering higher education, includes 13 tables and charts of state-by-state figures for enrollment in public and private 4-year and 2-year institutions, full-time-equivalent enrollment, average faculty salaries, degrees conferred, and current-fund expenditures for public and private institutions. Appended are selected price indices for 1974-75 and 1986-87, a glossary of key terms and definitions, and a guide to data sources. (TE)
