This manual on repair of major appliances is one of a series of individualized instructional materials for students. The manual is self-paced, but is designed to be used under the supervision of a coordinator or an instructor. The manual contains 36 assignments, each with all the information needed, a list of objectives that should be met, and exercise questions that can help in meeting those objectives. The assignments are organized into 12 sections that cover the following topics: introduction to major appliance repair; safety; hand tools; power tools; electrical and magnetic fundamentals; controls; electromagnetic fundamentals of AC generators, transformers, and motors; theory and measurement of alternating current; electrical meters and test equipment; heating and lighting; electric appliances; and gas appliances.
