Department of Agriculture, Washington, DC.
This report presents 3-day nutrient intake data for about 36,100 individuals in 48 states. Data are provided in 157 tables, and results are summarized in the text. The contribution of 14 food groups to intakes of food energy and 14 nutrients are presented. Also included are the average intakes of food energy and nutrients, the nutrient densities of diets, comparisons of intakes to the 1980 Recommended Dietary Allowances and to nutrient intakes in 1965, the nutrient contributions of food consumed away from home and of meals and snacks, and the frequency and time of day of eating. Nutrient intake tables are provided for food from home and away from home for individuals in 22 sex-age groups by 4 income levels, 3 urbanizations, 2 racial groups, and 4 seasons. Intakes by infants, pregnant and lactating women, and vegetarians are discussed separately. Eating occasions are discussed by source of food, location and companionship. Also discussed are special diets; use of vitamin and mineral supplements; and self-reported height, weight, health status, and physical disability. Characteristics of the sample are included.
