Analysis of Fall 1984 Credit Enrollment. Research Report Number 39.
Radcliffe, Susan K.
This analysis of fall 1984 credit enrollment represents an attempt to understand patterns of enrollment at Howard Community College (HCC) with respect to student demographics and registration status. Highlighted findings include the following: (1) credit enrollments were down for most categories with the most dramatic declines seen in part-time students, females, day students, recent Howard County high school graduates, and returning students; (2) enrollment declines appeared to be system-wide throughout Maryland community colleges; (3) factors related to enrollment declines were identified as lower unemployment, increased spending on consumer goods, new four-year institutions in Howard County and additional course offerings at these institutions, and new grading policies at HCC; (4) major shifts in enrollment patterns were the declines in the enrollments of females, recent county high school graduates, and first-time students; and (5) an increase in readmitted student enrollments was seen as a possible result of spring and summer recruitment activities. The bulk of the report consists of data tables and graphs. (LAL)
