The first of three parts of a computer awareness program for grades K-9, this guide includes objectives, implementation suggestions, and varied student activity worksheets for a five-unit, primary computer literacy program. A program overview includes the program rationale, goals, description and development, time allotment, and objectives for K-3 computer awareness. A discussion of program implementation covers hardware, gender equity, special needs, and student evaluation. The first unit introduces the use of the microcomputer in the classroom and describes procedures for microcomputer care, handling, moving, and scheduling. Unit 2 focuses on student interaction with exemplary educational courseware and on understanding the input/processing/output sequence and procedural thinking. Unit 3 examines the development of calculation aids, and the fourth unit prepares students for future work with computers. The final unit promotes awareness of computer technology in the home, school, and community, and emphasizes integration with the social studies and language arts curricula. (LMM)
