Phau Qhia Nyeem Ntawv Hmoob Dawb = White Hmong Literacy Primer.
Tsawb, Vwj; And Others
A primer for teaching Hmongs to read and write in their own language contains 67 lessons. It teaches literacy in the Roman alphabet used by Hmongs throughout the world, and is intended for students who have already learned to recognize and write the letters of that alphabet. The book uses spellings of the White dialect of Hmong (Hmoob Dawb) but speakers of Blue Hmong (Hmoob Leeg) will find it readily adaptable to the spellings of that dialect. The book first presents the vowels, diphthongs and tones to be learned by rote; it then teaches the single, double, triple and quadruple consonant letters. Each consonant or consonant group is taught via a key word, which is the focus of a short reading followed by reading exercises, writing exercises, and review. The book is intended for use in class situations, but has been designed to be maximally useful to the student working through the book on his own. (MSE)
