The 12 activity-oriented units described in this study skills guide for students in the eighth, ninth, and tenth grades are designed to assist in the development of necessary study skills at most levels of competence and to reinforce already existing skills. The units in the guide also attempt to incorporate as much student activity as possible, and focus on such topics as (1) learning to listen, (2) vocabulary (getting meaning from context), (3) notetaking methods, (4) listening and taking notes, (5) a way to read textbooks, (6) vocabulary (literal and figurative meanings), (7) how one studies, (8) improving memory, (9) preparing for and taking tests--objective questions, (10) organizing the paragraph, (11) organizing the paragraph (continued) and answering essay questions, and (12) using one's time.
