Introductory materials include a brief history of the Volunteer Adult Reading Program (VARP) and the philosophy and rationale of the program. Extensive appendixes, amounting to approximately 50 pages, include a VARP budget; flyers and advertisements; information on a literacy council, student recruitment, and tutor recruitment; a tutor training outline; a session outline; VARP objectives; a planning schedule; literacy council job descriptions; VARP accounting procedures; information on VARP tutor training and student testing; lists of adult literacy materials; a form for VARP statistics; a tutor job description; and a tutor/student attendance contract.
