Texas Adult Education Curriculum Guide.

This guide was created to provide Texas adult educators with a state-of-the-art resource for practical information about adult education materials and methods for their own growth and that of their students. The guide is organized in four parts. Part I provides preparatory information on the following topics: related resources; characteristics of the adult learner; characteristics of competency-based adult education; student diagnosis, prescription, and evaluation; commercial, teacher-made, and community materials; and materials evaluation. Part II of the guide contains the skill and content areas. The skill areas include communications, mathematics, decision making, and interpersonal relations, while the content areas include consumer economics, health/science, occupational/educational opportunities, and social studies. Within each section, the skill or content areas are subdivided into instructional objectives. For each instructional objective, learning objectives, student activities, teacher activities/notes, and resources are given. The third section of the guide is a bibliography of student and professional resources, divided by content area and listed alphabetically by title. The last section of the guide contains three appendixes. Appendix A provides a complete listing of all the instructional objectives covered in the guide; Appendix B provides a listing of publishers and addresses; and Appendix C contains a list of 100 of the most commonly misspelled words referred to in the Writing section of the guide.
