Mercy Teachers' College: 75 Years of Catholic Teacher Education, 1908-1984.
Institute of Catholic Education, Ascot Vale, Victoria (Australia).
A selective history of Mercy Teachers' College (Australia) is divided into six chapters. Following an introduction, the first chapter, "We Shall Find a Place," describes events leading up to the establishment of the college. The second chapter, "And Build," is an account of the major building projects undertaken to provide facilities for the various teaching activities introduced at different periods in the school's development. The third chapter, "And Grow," outlines the evolution of new courses and teaching specialists. The next two chapters, "And Live" and "And Change," focus on people of the college, past and present. An epilogue discusses the college crest and logo. Five appendices contain newspaper extracts, milestones in the college's history, samples of early correspondence from the Teachers and Schools Registration Board, sample syllabi, and a summary of courses for primary teachers, 1904-1984. Notes and sources, a list of illustrations, and an index are provided. (LP)
