Evaluation of Environmental Education in Schools.
Connect, v9 n3 Sep 1984
This newsletter discusses the evaluation of environmental education (EE) in schools, highlighting an introductory chapter of a proposed Unesco-United Nations environmental program guide on evaluating such programs. The benefits of evaluating an EE program (including program improvement, growth in student learning, better environment, and program support) are addressed. The newsletter also includes discussions of: (1) environmental education courses at the university level, focusing on the origins, diversity, and educational objectives of these courses, and the teaching and learning processes deemed essential to give coherence to their wide-ranging subject matter; (2) the structure and context of the EE network of the European community; (3) EE activities in Asia; (4) a pilot project on the introduction of EE into Upper Volta's rural primary schools; and (5) a poster exhibit entitled "Ecology in Action." In addition, a description of an EE program in Israel (including program objectives, instructional materials, and teacher training) and descriptions of EE workshops, conferences, and publications are provided.
