Microform Collections. SPEC Kit 59.
Association of Research Libraries, Washington, DC. Office of Management Studies.
A 1979 Systems and Procedures Exchange Center (SPEC) survey investigated the development, management, and staffing of microform collections in Association of Research Libraries (ARL) member institutions. Survey results indicate that the major types of microform holdings are government publications, large publishers' sets, and back runs of newspapers. The kit comprises: (1) statistical results of 80 responses to the SPEC survey; (2) microform collection policies and procedures from Yale University, McMaster University, Princeton University, University of Notre Dame, and Pennsylvania State University; (3) planning documents from Pennsylvania State University, University of Nebraska, and Louisiana State University; and (4) descriptions of facilities and use including floor plans from University of Connecticut, Washington State University, Temple University, and Boston University; and results of and reports on user surveys and attitudes from New York University and Brigham Young University. The concise summary that introduces the kit focuses on collection characteristics and developments, managing and staffing microform collections, facilities and user acceptance, and trends and issues.
