A Survey of Print and Nonprint Materials in College Libraries.
Ryan, Constance V.
A questionnaire was administered to 400 randomly selected four-year academic institutions to gather information about integration of print and nonprint materials, provision of media facilities, and degree of cooperation between audiovisual centers and libraries. Responses received from 266 institutions (67%) were subjected to the posteriori chi-square test for independence to determine if the variables of college size or geographical location resulted in significant differences. The following conclusions were reached: 77% to 85% of the institutions surveyed have attempted some integration of print and nonprint resources; nearly 50% of the responding institutions have a staff working closely together on print and nonprint materials; respondents are fairly equal in maintaining separate print and nonprint facilities with separate directors; size of college does influence organizational pattern; geographical location does not influence media integration; most institutions desiring integrated facilities and/or staff have already achieved such integration; and individuals with library degrees are most likely to be the administrator of integrated facilities. The survey and results of the survey sent to the respondents are appended. A list of references is included. (Author/THC)
