A Guidebook for Working with Parents of Highly Gifted Children. Project Quest.
Blum, Hinda; And Others
The guidebook is intended to serve as a model for educators interested in facilitating workshops for parents of highly gifted children. An out growth of a federal project to identify, work with, and develop support and suggestions for highly gifted children, their teachers, and their parents, the guidebook begins with a discussion of its objectives in parent workshops. Subsequent sections touch on the factors involved in setting the tone and special and common concerns of parents of highly gifted children. Sample agendas and materials for a five-session course conclude the booklet. The sessions are designed to allow mutual trust and momentum to build within the workshop group; they are entitled: Identifying Concerns and Expectations, The Family Unit, Developing Self-Management Skills, Building Self-Esteem, and Practical Applications of Parenting Approaches.
