Philosophy: A Course of Study for High School Gifted Students.
LoGiudice, James
The booklet outlines a philosophy course for gifted high school students. The program is designed to provide both academic substance and higher level critical thinking skill development. Objectives of the program include: (1) becoming more sensitive to life's major alternative goals and the standard means recommended for attaining them; (2) becoming more responsibly critical and evaluative of discourse; (3) becoming more careful of the logical cogency of presentations; and (4) becoming more aware of the stumbling blocks to clear, successful problem solving. Unit topics and readings, and suggested activities are listed for the following seven units: orientation to philosophy; social, political, and legal philosophy; epistemology; theology; aesthetics; ethics; and an overview of modern philosophy.
