An Alternative Model for Servicing the Language Disabled Child in the Public School.
Gerhardt, Melissa K.; And Others
The paper presents an alternative model of treatment to serve the language and learning disabled children in public schools. The Multidisciplinary Diagnostic and Training Program (MDTP), at the University of Florida, serves students in grades K-6 with learning, language, behavior and/or medical problems. Seven components of the MDTP are addressed: referral, diagnostic team, case conference, liaison with the school system, diagnostic training classroom, parent training, and preservice and inservice training. The model emphasizes the total environmental treatment scheme, with the student's language needs considered in light of the school curriculum, social skills, and home situation. (CL)
