Special Needs Education Material for Vocational and Industrial Education: Classroom Teachers' Handbook and Bibliography.
Bruwelheide, Kenneth L.
Intended to help accommodate special needs learners in the vocational classroom setting, the handbook presents information on mainstreaming. Chapter I focuses on legal requirements and teacher roles in serving special needs students in the vocational classroom. Chapter II provides a historical overview of special education legislation and reviews recent federal statutes (1973 Rehabilitation Act and Section 504; P.L. 94-142, The Education for All Handicapped Children Act; and P.L. 94-482, the Education Amendment of 1976). Characteristics of eight handicapping conditions are discussed in chapter III. Teachers' attitudes toward mainstreaming handicapped students and the effects of expectation are considered in chapter IV, while chapter V pursues the actual mainstream placement and decision making aspects. Instructional components, such as task analysis and goals and objectives, are addressed in chapter VI. The final chapter offers a planning model for educating the handicapped. An accompanying bibliography contains approximately 1,000 references (from 1973-1981) on such topics concerning mainstreaming as physical handicaps, mental disorders, adaptive processes, and attitudes.
