"Youth Employment Strategies: Public Service of South Australia" (Jenny Rhodes) describes opportunities for South Australian youth to enter public service. "School Influences on Retention in Victorian Government High Schools" (John Ainley, Margaret Batten, Hilary Miller) discusses the differences that appropriate programs in schools can make to retention rates. "Are Girls 'Youth'?" (Shirley Sampson) and "The Culture of Our High Schools and Its Impact on Girls" (Margaret Vickers) focus on sex fairness issues. In "School and Work: Some Teacher and Student Perspectives," Lyle Munro reports on the impact of students' part-time work. Susan King reviews "Confronting School and Work," a contribution to the debate on school effectiveness by Peter Dwyer, Bruce Wilson, and Roger Woock.
