Tennessee Comprehensive Education Study: Summary and Comparison with "A Nation at Risk."
Payne, William; And Others
A task force of Tennessee legislators, educators, and others directed a study that had as its objective to develop a long-range plan for all of the state's educational levels. Recommendations of this task force are compared, side-by-side, with the recommendations found in the federal report "A Nation At Risk." Under the broad headings of content, standards and expectations, time, teaching, and leadership and fiscal support are the detailed recommendations from the Tennessee study. These specify statewide goals: curriculum requirements; teacher training and certification; and the responsibilities of the State Board of Education, local school districts, and the state government.
