Illinois Conference on Children's Priorities for the '80's: Working Documents.
Illinois Commission on Children, Springfield.
Participants in the 1981 Illinois Conference on Children's Priorities for the '80s were provided with two main working documents: (1) "Summary--Recommendations of the 1980 Illinois White House Conference on Children," and (2) "Narrative Summary of State Agency Questionnaires on Selected Recommendations from the Report of the 1980 Illinois White House Conference on Children." The present document integrates the information contained in these two summaries. In particular, the first paper consolidated the 426 recommendations of the report of the 1980 Illinois White House Conference on Children into 54 issue areas with approximately 250 recommendations. The second paper resulted from an effort to determine existing responsibility for the recommendations within state government; a questionnaire was designed to determine what statutory responsibility, plans, and programs a given state agency, board, or commission might have with respect to a particular recommendation. In this synthesis, the 54 issue areas are organized under five general categories: adolescence and juvenile justice, the role of families in nurturing children, educational services, health, and the continuum of services. Recommendations for each issue are followed by a report of state agencies' responses. Appended are the state agency questionnaire and a chart indicating state agency responsibility for 1980 White House Conference issues. (RH)
