1984 Survey of Bakersfield College Radiologic Technician Graduates.
Scott, David C.
In 1984, a study was conducted to assess the success of Bakersfield College's radiologic technician program in preparing graduates for employment; to provide information for accreditation, evaluation, and long-range planning purposes; and to compare results with a 1977 survey of program graduates. Questionnaires, requesting information on graduates' background, employment experiences since graduation, and reactions to the curriculum and instruction, were sent to 105 individuals who graduated from the program between 1971 and 1982. Study findings, based on a 52.4% response rate, included the following: (1) 70.4% of the graduates were female, 70% were between the ages of 26 and 35, and 55.6% had only a high school diploma prior to entry in the radiologic technician program; (2) 94.4% of the respondents had obtained employment as radiographers, and of these 88.2% were working full-time; (3) 77% of the respondents were earning more than $20,000 per year; (4) 57.4% had a realistic picture of radiologic technology before they entered the program, as compared with 32.4% of the respondents to the 1977 survey; (5) 95.5% said they would recommend the program to a friend, compared to 85.3% in 1977; and (6) 85.2% felt the course content was excellent or good, 68.6% thought classroom experiences were interesting or very interesting, and 96.4% thought the clinical experience was interesting or very interesting. The survey instrument and cover letter are appended. (HB)
