Creative Writing for the Verbally Gifted: Senior High.
Boesen, Steve
The guide presents information on a creative writing course for verbally gifted senior high school students. Part I of the course consists of general exploration activities on literary forms: the journal, the poem, the short story, and a student selection from among such types as one-act plays, essays or by-lined articles, editorials, and TV (or radio) scripts. Study units for Part I are charted in terms of content outline, objectives, strategies and activities, and resources. Part II of the course involves student specialization on a long-term project. The course incorporates J. Renzulli's Enrichment Triad Model. Grading considerations are reviewed, and the importance of quality in writing is stressed. Extensive appendixes include a creative writing attitude survey, interest inventories, and guidelines for writing poetry and analyzing short stories. This document is part of a collection of materials from the Iowa Education Agency 7 Teacher Center project. (CL)
