The three tests that make up this instrument are designed to assess the oral communication, grammatical fluency, and vocabulary development of students for whom English is a second language. The spoken English test comes in two versions: one with 90 items on a cassette tape, the other with 90 items to be read aloud by the examiner. Each version is available in three forms that employ a multiple-choice format requiring the selection of the semantically and grammatically correct response. Two levels of the grammar test have been developed; Form O is for the primary grades, the Forms A, B, and C are for secondary and higher education students. The forms of the vocabulary test are targeted in the same way as the grammar exam.
