The School Subjects Attitude Scales were developed to measure student attitudes toward school subjects. It is intended for use in grades 5-12. Reliability estimates were sufficiently high to warrant using the Scales for responses of groups, but not with individuals. Various criteria confirmed the scales' validity. Large groups of public school students in Alberta, Canada, in grades 5, 8, and 11 were tested at the beginning, middle, and end of each school semester to establish norms in reading (literature), language (composition), English, spelling, art, drama, French, guidance, health, home economics, industrial arts, mathematics, music, physical education, science, biology, chemistry, physics, social studies, and typing. Directions for administering the scales, scoring, and using the norm tables is provided. (HFG)
