This handbook presents information on the minimum requirements for teacher certification in the state of Illinois. Requirements are listed for: (1) certification by transcript evaluation; (2) application procedures for individuals with foreign credentials; (3) qualification of teachers--utilization of certificates; (4) waiver of additional student teacher experience for experienced teachers; (5) standard elementary and secondary certificates; (6) standard special certificate; (7) early childhood certificate; (8) provisional vocational and temporary provisional vocational certificates; (9) provisional certificates; (10) substitute certificates, and (11) and general certificates. General information regarding certification is provided and covers such items as fees, lapsed certificates, and acceptable credits. Requirements are also listed for certification of school services personnel and administrators, as well as for the transitional bilingual certificate. A list is provided of Illinois colleges and universities recognized for teacher education by the Illinois State Board of Education. Since all certificates must be processed through the regional superintendent of schools, a list containing the names of the superintendent and assistant superintendent in each region, addresses, and telephone numbers is included.
