Inupiaq Cultural Enrichment Program. Junior High-High School.
Ahngasuk, Margaret; And Others
Part of a project to teach Inupiaq culture and language, the teacher's guide contains 18 lessons about survival. The lessons focus on survival on ice, water, and land; hunting gear; fall and early winter weather; emergency shelters; landmarks; traditional clothing; land and water transportation; first aid; search and rescue; sewing; traditional food preparation and preservation; land and sea animals; maintenance and repair of snowmachines and outboard motors; and navigation by natural environment compass. Each lesson is presented in tabular form and contains five activities. For each activity the table contains a list of new Inupiaq vocabulary, a brief paragraph describing the activity, possible resources, and a reference to teaching materials. At the end of each lesson is a form for the teacher to evaluate the lesson, note whether the objectives were taught and were important, and indicate necessary changes. (SB)
