Preschool Education in Japan. NIER Occasional Paper 04/83.
Several topics related to the provision of preschool education in Japan are discussed. First detailed are the history and present situation of the preschool education system; both kindergartens as well as nursery schools are described. The second section focuses on the teaching content of kindergartens and nursery schools, specifying goals related to curriculum areas. Kindergarten teachers and nursery school teachers are discussed in the third section; topics include training, qualifications, and salaries and allowances. The final section describes national government policies for the preschool nursing system.
