Child Guidance for Child Caregivers: Student Laboratory Manual.
Texas Tech Univ., Lubbock. Home Economics Curriculum Center.
Designed to enhance student knowledge of and skills in child guidance in group care settings, this manual provides 50 laboratory experiences for five units. Units cover foundations and assumptions (2 laboratory experiences), developmental factors (8), indirect guidance (14), direct guidance (14), and strategies (12). Each unit includes performance objectives, an overview (information on the unit topic), a brief list of references for more information, and laboratory experiences in a child care setting. Laboratory experiences are of two types: observation experiences (observation of young children and their caregivers) and participation experiences (planning of activities and direct work with the children). Laboratory experiences are in a format with these components: learning objective, directions, and key questions to be answered. Self evaluation forms are provided in each unit. Units with participation experiences also include forms for instructor evaluations. Introductory materials include guidelines for a successful laboratory experience. A glossary of terms and a bibliography are appended. (YLB)
