More Perspectives on Public Awareness.
Richman, Gary, Ed.; Trohanis, Pascal, Ed.
The booklet examines approaches in public awareness that may be used by Developmental Disabilities (DD) Councils. The eight chapters are explained to be an outgrowth of a national meeting of DD Councils. L. Wiseman, in "Beyond the Sixty-Second Solution," suggests that political action should be thought of as a public awareness resource, and that measurement of public awareness programs is essential. In "Public Awareness as a Developmental Disability," G. Richman and P. Trohanis review stumbling blocks as well as successful approaches to effective public awareness efforts. Public awareness skill is the subject of three chapters: "Media Relations--Making DD News" by M. Galant and T. Knox; "More with Less" by D. Prince; and "Public Service Announcements for Radio and Television" by B. L. Cohen and G. Ackerman. Examples of public awareness activities are described in the final three papers: "Advocating Before the State Legislature" by D. Weber; "Dental Services for Handicapped Citizens" by L. Coffee; and "Information Project for Primary Care Physicians" by M. Paxton. (CL)
