The third of five volumes (and the second of the four curriculum guides) of Project Teach 'n' Reach, a program to help regular classroom teachers teach nondisabled students about disabilities, deals with communication handicaps. The curriculum addresses the following issues under the topic of hearing impairments: anatomical structures of the ear, tranmission of sound, auditory assessment, auditory perception, hearing aids and telecommunication devices for the deaf, speech of the hearing impaired, communicating with the hearing impaired, lipreading skills, nonverbal communication, fingerspelling, sign systems, sign language, and ways to increase student awareness about the hearing impaired. Activity suggestions are presented for the following topics concerning language impairments: anatomical structures of the brain; causes of language impairment; use of senses to develop language; normal language development; expressive and receptive language; phonology; morphology; syntax; semantics; word finding; vocabulary recall; language skills and mathematics, spelling, writing, and reading; the frustrations of the language impaired; and ways to develop positive attitudes toward the language impaired. Each topic includes information on goals, performance objectives, and activity procedures. (CL)
