A Technique for Refresher Training in the Naval Reserve.
Heidt, Edward A.; And Others
A project is described that developed prototype materials in support of a proposed refresher training concept for use in providing proficient maintenance training in the Naval Reserve. (Another focus of the study was the use of microcomputers as a vehicle for presenting prototype materials.) The philosophy of Naval Reserve training on which the proposed concept for refresher training is based is presented, and the study approach used to construct the prototype materials is described. Next, the prototype materials, an operational scenario and a related training game, which would provide practice in a supporting knowledge or skill area, are presented. Their operation is described through reproductions of printed frames generated by a microcomputer on which the prototypes were run. Explanatory information and commentary appear. Issues related to the design and use of sample prototypes are identified, and the potential application of this refresher training concept is discussed. Appendixes include the computer programs developed in support of the prototype materials and reprinted information describing a commercially available computer simulation exercise that might be used to extend the application of the proposed refresher training concept.
