Developing a Statewide Community/Junior College Consortium to Enrich Interpreting for the Deaf-Networking, July 1, 1981-June 30, 1982: Final Report.
Palmer, J. Ursula; And Others
In 1981-1982, Eastfield College undertook a project to meet the training, communication, and resource needs of Texas community/junior college instructors involved in training deaf interpreters, as well as the needs of their students. The project resulted in a workshop for interpreter trainers; the development of an annotated bibliography of resource materials; the publication of a newsletter to facilitate networking among interpreter instructors; and the development of a brochure describing training programs in Texas. This report presents information obtained during the course of the project. After listing members of the project's advisory board, the report provides information, including contact person, entry requirements, course schedule, and a list of textbooks, for the interpreter training programs at seven community/junior colleges in the state. The next sections, which list resources available on manual communication training and interpreter training, provide a bibliography of textbooks and articles; a list of texts used in Texas and in out-of-state interpreter training programs and in continuing education sign language courses; a list of available audio and video resources; and reviews of eight videotapes. The next sections contain two project newletters; the agenda of a 3-day workshop for interpreter trainers and the results of the workshop evaluation; and a composite profile of interpreter trainers in Texas. Recommendations and information on workshop participants are included. (DAB)
