A Model Gifted Program for Lutheran Schools on Limited Budgets.

The paper provides information for Lutheran schools in Oklahoma attempting to design gifted programs in light of state accreditation requirements for such programs. The establishment of a committee for gifted programs is suggested as a first step. Formulating a philosophy about the program and the needs of students is the next step. Identification procedures include teacher observation, group and individual intelligence tests, and creativity tests. Teachers' attitudes and commitment play a vital part in the program's success. Curriculum options include vertical acceleration, horizontal enrichment, and grouping. Classroom organization approaches cover use of time, classroom noise level, and physical arrangements. Enrichment can be given in the classroom setting or through community, congregational and parental resources. Pullout activities, such as resource rooms and learning labs are other considerations.
