This curriculum guide is one in a series of three competency-based instructional materials dealing with marketing and distributive education (MADE). Covered in the individual sections of the guide are the following topics: job orientation (cooperative education work agreements, personal appearance, career opportunities, job applications, job interviews, training plans, legal requirements, and safety); selling (the preapproach, determining needs and wants, presentation techniques, overcoming objections, closing sales, and suggestion selling); human relations (personality and human relations, personal qualities and employer expectations, employer-employee relations, working with others, human relations in formal and informal organizations, and improving human relations); merchandising mathematics (mathematics and sales, handling sales records, cash registers, weights and measures, inventories, processing purchases, pricing math, and payroll calculations); communications (speaking, listening, reading, and writing); and merchandising (buying, marketing research, market resources, choosing products, negotiating prices, credit arrangements, purchase orders, transportation terms, and pricing). Each lesson includes an outline of material to cover, behavioral objectives, general competencies, a lesson plan, suggestions for applying specific competencies, an audiovisual list, a bibliography, and a competency-based test.
