Admissions Model. Missouri Vocational-Technical Programs.
Associated Educational Consultants, Inc., Pittsburgh, PA.
This comprehensive admissions model is designed to assist school personnel on both the secondary and postsecondary levels in the State of Missouri with the admission and selection of students for vocational programs. Presented in flow chart form with an accompanying outline to describe its various steps, the model addresses the following stages of the admissions procedure: (1) planning, (2) application process, (3) selection process, and (4) refinement of admissions criteria and procedures. Various program planning concerns are covered, including the selection committee, core criteria for use in all vocational-technical programs, program-specific criteria, population representation, slot determination, and legal concerns. Dealt with next are counselor meetings, information session, the application itself, testing, and assessment scales. Focus of that portion of the model devoted to the selection process is on implementing policy, evaluating assessment scales, checking program representation, notifying students, and handling student appeals. Outlined next are procedures for conducting validity studies and for assessing activities and publications. Appendixes to the model include recommendation forms, application forms, a listing of program-specific admissions criteria, and a sample selection process. (MN)
