Intended for instructors serving the occupational needs of disadvantaged and handicapped students, this curriculum guide contains 21 units for an auto service program. Its purposes are to provide minimum skills for students entering the mainstream, supplement vocational skills of students already mainstreamed, and provide vocational instructional materials for the modified classroom. Teachers should adapt these self-paced and self-contained instructional materials to suit teaching/learning situations. The 21 units cover these areas/topics: major automobile parts; safety rules; changing oil and oil filter; lubricating auto chassis and body; checking automatic transmission fluid; checking and replacing fan belt; checking, recharging, and cleaning a battery; jumpstarting; installing antifreeze; replacing headlight, radiator hose, thermostat and fuses; cleaning and waxing a car; tire identification; changing and rotating tires; repairing tubeless tires--plugging and patching methods; balancing tires; and repacking front wheel bearings. Each unit contains these sections: (1) unit objectives and self-assessment statements; (2) introduction (motivational statement); (3) description of tools, materials, and equipment; (4) steps of procedure (explanation and illustration of given skill); and (5) student evaluation (true-false, identification, steps of procedure).
