Descriptive Analysis of the 1978-79 Horizon Population and Selection Process. Report No. 79-13.
Ramey, Madelaine
This report describes the student selection process and its results for the Horizon Program, a magnet program for gifted students conducted in Seattle, Washington public schools in 1978-1979. In the first section various measures used to determine students' creative, academic, intellectual, and leadership capabilities for program admission are outlined. The second section presents demographic characteristics of students, comparisons of age, sex and ethnic group performance on program admission tests, and a discussion of the relation of admission measures to selection decisions. The report concludes with a recommendation that given the role of the Horizon Program in Seattle's desegregation effort, the selection process be critically examined in order to assure equal opportunity for all age, sex and ethnic groups.
