This publication contains excerpts from published works on the teaching of undergraduate sociology by sociologists known for their contribution to scholarship. In addition to bringing these writings to a broader audience, the series is a reminder that the creation of sociological knowledge and its transmission have been joint concerns of many well-known sociologists. Readers are encouraged to consult the orginal sources--journal articles and books--which are cited. Topics discussed include problems in teaching sociology, formalism and class size, lecturing, the academic side of college life, the psychology of social consciousness implied in instruction, and teaching methods.
