Presented are activities designed to help students understand and investigate relationships between people and the marine environment. Topics include personal values, coastal development and management, environmental laws, and beach community monitoring. General considerations are handled through simulations, class discussions, interviews, student writing exercises, and other classroom activities. Specific local studies involve field work as well as in-class preparation and evaluation. A bibliography, student worksheets, and field trip suggestions are included. (Author/WB)
