Post-Secondary Vocational Home Economics Instructional Materials Needs Assessment Project: State-of-the-Art and Final Report.
Glosson, Linda R.; Bowers, Candice H.
A Texas project assessed postsecondary vocational home economics instructors' needs for instructional media and materials as well as the need for training in the development of curriculum materials. Relevant post-secondary programs identified were child development, food service/dietetics, fashion design/tailoring, and interior design. In collecting data on needs for instructional media and materials, two methods were employed: interviews of postsecondary vocational home economics instructors conducted during on-site visits to 20 community junior colleges and administration and analysis of a survey instrument. Additional procedures for the project included identifying resources for each subject area, preparing an annotated bibliography for each area, and establishing an advisory committee. Information from the survey indicated that postsecondary vocational instructors used a variety of teaching techniques and instructional media and materials and used them more frequently. The majority of instructors would increase their use of them if more and/or better quality materials were available. Needs were perceived for training in development of instructional media and materials, especially in the production and use of audiovisuals. (The site visit report record and needs assessment survey are appended.) (YLB)
