Asian American Studies and Asian Studies: Interrelationships. Asian Pacific American Education Occasional Papers.
Hawkins, John N.
This paper explores the possible interrelationships between Asian American Studies and Asian Studies. First, the various goals and objectives of both ethnic studies and international studies are reviewed. Then, two examples of possible interaction are discussed: (1) language acquisition study; and (2) comparative learning theory study. Two areas where Asian Studies have interacted in the past and are likely to interact in the future are also covered: precollegiate multicultural education and collegiate degree and research programs. Recommendations for improving the interaction between the two disciplines are offered. (APM)
